Dear Visitors,
Welcome to The Ostrava International School (TOIS). We are a community of almost 200 students and 50 staff from over 35 countries around the world, who have decided to be a part of an academically challenging, open-minded, multicultural community in the Moravian Silesian region.
It gives me great joy to be leading the first authorised International Baccalaureate Continuum School in the Czech Republic. For me, it is the culmination of a personal journey that began 30 years ago, when, as a young university graduate, I came to post-Communist Czech Republic from Canada to teach English, and to promote the founding principles of Democracy and Civil Society.
As an International Baccalaureate World School, we are part of a community that places a strong emphasis on the balanced, holistic growth of the child. We believe strongly that when learners are in safe, respectful and supportive environments, then meaningful, challenging learning can be unleashed. And with such a diverse community of nationalities, languages, beliefs, and backgrounds, those learning opportunities for TOIS students are even more enriched, and provide an even stronger base for life in the Global Village of the 21st Century.
We strive to create opportunities for our learners to be awed by discovery, to make connections with their inner lives and the world around them, and to challenge themselves to set goals and achieve them, particularly if it means making mistakes, reflecting, and trying again.
Academically, the results of our IB Diploma Programme graduates are consistently above the world average. In terms of the personal growth our students’ experience, the results are immeasurable.
If you think our school is the kind of place you would like your child to experience growth, change and deeper understanding, then we would be very happy to welcome you to TOIS!
